Nigerians Will Forever Remember You If You Become President, Iyanya Tells Sowore

Popular musician, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, widely known as ‘Iyanya’, says Nigerians will remember Omoyele Sowore forever if he emerges President in the general election rescheduled for Saturday, February 23, 2019.

This has come as a boost for the presidential ambition of Omoyele Sowore, contesting on the platform of the African Action Congress (AAC).

Iyanya made the statement when he appeared on Sowore’s #OurTime, a programme Sowore anchors to keep supporters updated on his campaign.

Commending entertainers for their contribution to advancing the country, Sowore noted that the industry and talent of musicians, as well as actors and actresses, have put the country favourably on the international scene.

Speaking with Sowore on #OurTime, Iyanya said: “I strongly believe that if someone like you goes in there, I’m sure you would do things that will make Nigerians remember Sowore for the rest of our lives and I’m wishing you the best.”

Iyanya commended Sowore’s SPICERHEAT agenda, stating that his plans would make the country better and help support the production of entrepreneurs.

“Imagine a Nigeria where everybody has light. What it means is that my nephew, who wants to start work, doesn’t need to buy a generator set. With the number of generators we have in Nigeria and the people who are exporting them, we can’t get power supply in Nigeria,” he said.

He expressed support for all young candidates seeking political positions in the coming elections, saying it is time Nigerians supported young candidates — because the country needs a “saviour” to salvage the deplorable situation of the country.

“I am sitting with you because every time I watch you, you speak facts. I’m also sitting down here to say let’s give young people a chance. If you go there and do well, I will support you forever, and Nigerians will support you. What Nigeria needs now is a saviour but nobody is holy.

“I agree with you that it is time for the government to let young people come up to office; it is time to make new heroes, especially the young generations, because Nigerians need people who love the people.

“The people are suffering today because there is no love coming from above to the lowest level. There are people who are suffering, who appreciate money as low as N100. So, it is time for the government to allow young people who have the relationship with the young generations to come in and bring new ideas and change the game, because the situation right now is not good for the people out there and it is really bad.”

Stating why celebrities are not coming out to publicly endorse politicians, Iyanya said the people come after them and sometimes attack them when the candidates they support fail to perform.

In his remarks, Sowore said: “Nigeria is at a point where there must be a generational transition. The old generation of leaders who are analogue thinkers must give way for the digital generations.”

Police Woman ‘Tears Up Her Own Uniform’ To Get Arrested Nollywood Film-Maker Sent To Jail

Lanre Adediwura, Nigerian Nollywood movie producer and director, found himself behind bars after having an altercation with the Police.

In a four-part video he shared on his Instagram handle on Friday, Adediwura narrated how he was arrested while he was offering to give his friend and his colleague a lift.

In the first video posted by Adediwura, some police officers could be seen and one of them in his cars.

He also showed his torn shirt, the pregnant woman whose eyes was cut from an attack by one of the officers and the windscreen of his car that was damaged by the Police.

Witnesses could be heard accusing the officers of removing their name tags when Adediwura started recording with one of the officers identified as Omolara.

Narrating how the incident happened in the second video, the movie producer said: “I woke up this morning and left my home. I got to a particular bus stop and saw this friend of mine who happened to be an old friend from university. I pulled over and asked him where he was going, he said Ikeja and I told him I am going to Iyana-Ipaja. He also said I should pick his pregnant colleague.

“As we moved on, a tricycle blocked me and four police officers, two females and two males, came down from the tricycle. They asked me to come out which I did.

“While I was talking to the officer, the other officer entered my vehicle and I went to meet her that madam, you can’t just go into my vehicle without asking me any question. I wanted to remove my car key from the keyhole, the next thing; she pulled me over with my shirt and tore my short.

“Before I knew it, she already used her elbow against the face of the pregnant woman and blood was coming out.”

The third video showed Adediwura in the Ejigbo Magistrate court where he was arraigned for assaulting the officers.

He said the Police had turned the situation around and were now claiming he and his friend assaulted the officers.

“So, the Police had their way; they turned the story around, the Magistrate granted us a bail of N50,000 each requesting for sureties,” he said.

He added that the Police failed to mention that an officer broke his car windscreen and also injured the pregnant woman.

He added: “My car is impounded; If I don’t get surety, I remain behind bars. This is Nigeria, Nigeria Police! I was just going by my daily business, I am just a filmmaker, I need justice, and I need help.”

In the last video, he pleaded for Nigerians to help him demand justice from the Police, as he was being taken to Kirikiri prison.

He said: “This is the worst they could do to us, taking us right now to Kirikiri; they have turned the story around saying that we brutalized the Police meanwhile, we are the ones brutalized. I’m not filming, I’m not shooting a movie; this is a handcuff in my hand.”

When contacted, Mr Bala Elkana, Lagos State Police Command Public Relation Officer, said Adediwura was stopped because he contravened traffic law of the state by parking in the wrong place.

He said: “I was able to identify who those police officers are and I got them to my office this morning to listen to their own side of the story.

“There was a traffic contravention by him; he parked wrongly on the road and from the video he uploaded, other road users had to maneouver before they passed.

“We have ascertained that he parked wrongly on the road. He parked wrongly to talk to a friend; that was when the Police officers accosted him.

Elkana stated that the Force was investigating the matter and anybody found guilty, including the officers, would be punished.

He added that he had personally ensured that the movie producer and director was granted bail by the court.

“I’m still reviewing the video to see at what point he was brutalized but I have seen where a woman police was having issue with another woman in the car in one of the videos.

“They have all made statements and we are investigating what actually happened. The matter is already in court and I have moved further to intervene even at the court level to be sure he is granted bail.

“Right now as I am talking to you, his wife and friends are at the court as well as the Division Police Officer. We want him to be released today while we continue to investigate the matter.

“We want to also look at the action of our men to know if they professionally handle it. We will look at it critically and whoever is wrong at the end of the day will be punished. Justice will definitely be done to everybody.”

YouTube celebrates rise of AfroBeats with launch of Burna Boy Spotlight Story

YouTube yesterday 26 march 2019 launched its Spotlight Story documentary on Nigerian Afro-fusion singer and songwriter Burna Boy. Having catapulted to fame with the 2012 release of his single “Like to Party”, Burna Boy has become one of the leading musical voices on the African continent and an international YouTube sensation.

The 18-minute documentary, which can be viewed here, was launched at an exclusive watch party and tells the story of the rise of AfroBeats and the role YouTube has played, through Burna Boy’s eyes. Additionally, the video sees Burna Boy and his manager, Bose Ogulu (who just happens to be his mum), sharing some of his coming-of-age stories.

This is not the first time YouTube has built a story around Burna Boy. In October 2018, he got an ‘Artist on the Rise’ feature on the YouTube for Artists web page

The video streaming service has played a major role in supporting African musicians and artists in sharing their voice, art and culture with the world. Not only does YouTube’s global reach help break artists, and bring African music to the world, its audience makes fan content that helps amplify the reach of African voices. Additionally, YouTube’s technology allows music producers to be inspired and to collaborate like never before.

“Cultural movements grow and build on YouTube,” says Addy Awofisayo, YouTube Content Partnerships Manager, Sub Saharan Africa. “African music is the most recent example. For years now, YouTube has played an essential role in the discovery and development of African sound, exporting African music to listeners worldwide, enabling collaborations within the global and regional music industry, and accelerating the transition to digital for fans on the continent.”

A large share of YouTube views for top African artists come from outside the continent, with international artists such as Kanye West, Beyonce, and Childish Gambino integrating African elements into their music, choreography, and visual style.

“Ten years ago, African producers and artists had no easy way to hear, be inspired by, and influence sounds and artistry from around the world,” says Awofisayo. “YouTube technology changed that.”

“It will continue to do so too,” she adds. “With the launch of products such as YouTube Go in 2018, more African artists will be able to share their work with an increasingly large audience, fully cementing their place on the global map.”

Beyond The `Takedown Notice` On Tiwa Savage`s Youtube ‘One’ Video By Rockson Akpotiri Igelige

The foundation of the Internet is anchored on its ability to spread information. It is a powerful tool that elevates and adds value to vital human rights, specifically the freedom of expression and the right to information.

No doubt, the Internet is saturated with a repository of rich and diverse online content. Yet, experience has also shown that some of these online content could be very offensive on many fronts, thereby violating existing laws (child pornography, right to privacy and dignity, and property rights such as intellectual property) that could lead to criminal trial and civil litigations. Consequently, this can lead to a dire, huge monetary compensation or criminal indictment that could stunt the growth of the Internet. This is one of the reasons the legislator had to adopt the protective measure in the form of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

The object is not far to fetch. It is almost difficult for the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to screen every material on their sites by a third party to assess whether each is licensed or falls within the wall of fair use against the background of millions of viewers seeing and posting their videos online.

One of the raison d`etre for this write up is to point out those compellable facts that can actually arm-twist Internet Service Providers like YouTube or other similar sites to pull down materials on their sites. The act of removing materials by the ISPs, based on a copyright claim by a third party is done in actualisation of the provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act 1998. This piece of legislation is traceable to the United States of America.

Before the birth of this legislation, ISP or Internet intermediaries were subject to direct control by the courts through a combination of statutory and common law norms of liability. With the enactment of this legislation, the powers of the courts were whittled down in the matters relating to content posted on the sites of the Internet intermediaries by a third party, and a kind of conditional immunity conferred on Internet intermediaries that perform the access, storage and linking online content.

These Internet intermediaries are best suited to control the transmission of unlawful materials. But the legislators through the aforementioned piece of legislation have adopted a protective posture to accelerate Internet free speech, mindful of the fact that they can flourish if these Internet intermediaries are allowed the space and freedom to grow their technology without legal hindrance and distraction. In a nutshell, the whole idea of providing conditional immunity to Internet intermediaries is to open the floodgate of growth in the sphere of technology for a greater freedom of speech on the Internet, but at the same permitting copyright owners to enforce their rights in the online World.

The conditional immunity given to the Internet intermediaries that offer hosting and linking services is predicated upon implementing a notice-and-takedown scheme that permits right owners to have infringing material deleted from their sites almost immediately. It must also be noted that compliance with the DMCA safe harbour is optional and voluntary.

And it is solely upon compliance that the safe harbour becomes a shield that can protect the Internet intermediaries against litigation. That is to say the notice-and-takedown scheme is a condition precedent that must be observed to be able to enjoy the conditional immunity given by the law to the Internet intermediaries.

In short, the “notice and takedown” sections of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act regulate how the copyright owners and Internet companies would share responsibility in dealing with online copyright infringement. The DMCA, no doubt, has assisted the ISPs to have escaped ruinous copyright liability, and thereby making them to do business responsibly. It is a superpowerful tool set up against pirated content. It is on record that copyright owners sent more than 345milliom and 500million takedown requests to Google in 2014 and 2015 respectively. And the takedown requests keep increasing at an alarming rate in subsequent years.

How does the DMCA safe harbour “notice and takedown” work? According to Chris Spring and Mark Lemley, in their article titled: ‘Why notice-and-takedown is a bit of copyright law worth saving’, made it clear that, “the genius of the DMCA is that it lets technology startups comply with the law without hiring a platoon of copyright lawyer.”

In this wise, an aggrieved right owner who feels strongly that his right has been infringed upon will send a takedown notice to that ISP. In the notice, the specific violation and the Internet link of the infringing material must be included. Once proper notice has been received by the ISP, the allegedly infringing material must be taken down and the customer who put it online will be informed of the development.

The affected person can immediately put in a “counter notification”, if he had acted in good faith that he has a legal right to the material; he could have got a licence to use it or he could invoke fair use doctrine. Once there is a counter notification, the allegedly infringing content is put back online by the ISP unless otherwise directed by a court of competent jurisdiction. The Internet intermediaries that follow these procedures stricto strata are shielded from copyright liability for whatever content their customers uploaded on their sites. The DMCA does not enjoin them to take any step to verify the truth in the claims before deleting the material. It is noteworthy that taking down material off the site by the ISP in line with the DMCA does not constitute any act of guilt. It is just a procedure and nothing more.

In line with the above, the musical video for the song ‘one’, put together by Marvin First Lady popularly known musically as Tiwa Savage on her YouTube account was pulled down by the Social Media platform, YouTube, in November 2018, based on a copyright claim orchestrated by a third party, Danny Young, a Nigeria-based musician.

The news spread like wildfire for weeks. The reason(s) for the spread of news is not far to fetch: she is an artist of international repute, besides being an award-winning singer/songwriter, and lastly, which is the crux of this write up, she was portrayed or painted as guilty as charged in the public domain.

Going by what we have noted so far as regards the DMCA safe harbour “notice and takedown”, the ONE VIDEO by Tiwa Savage was pulled down to fulfil the letters of the law. As of the time of writing this piece, the video had been restored. It then, means that Tiwa Savage might have put up a counter notification in line with the provisions of the law. She is not the first person to have had this experience. Popular blogger, Linda Ikeji, had a similar experience some years back.

There are a thousand and one persons that have experienced this, and are still experiencing it. I am not in the position now to authenticate the copyright infringement claim against Tiwa Savage since the matter is already before a court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos, Nigeria. Right or wrong, it is strictly the decision for the court to rule on this.

Like every man-made institution, the DMCA has some imperfections. There are cases, particularly from the political class that it was evidently clear that disgruntled politicians use it to remove content that is otherwise clearly a fair use. Ahsley Madison used it to remove the posting of its data online. The removal of several videos from the YouTube channel of the 2008 John McCain US Presidential Election Campaign is another clear case of recorded abuse.

And that is why the court (Ninth Circuit) in the case of Lenz against Universal Music Group ruled that copyright owners must consider the fair use doctrine before sending a takedown notice under the DMCA to avoid this abuse.

So far, so good the system in question is a compromise. It is not a perfect system, but somehow it is aiding the growth of the Internet, and this has carried the Internet to the present level.

Problems with Making Money Online without Investment in India

Problems with Making Money Online without Investment in India

Earlier I have discussed how one can earn money online in India without any sort of investment. There is a clear-cut guide to building a profitable internet home business. But one has to face a lot of problems is he/she is determined to not to invest a single rupee in buying stuff required to work at home online. Like in any business buying & selling is involved, internet marketing is no exception. It takes money to earn money online.

First problems come with the appearance. Your blogger blog could be worth visiting as it is having contents of worth but I have seen many surfers avoiding to read blogspot blogs irrespective of the attractive design. It’s a question of trust and branding. Keeping aside the branding thing you can at least get a custom domain for your blogger blog to look professional. It will cost you $10 a year. Not much. Right?

You will get a lot of free hosting services around the web. They have limitations and problems. Blogspot hosts your free blog but you may find your blog deleted by Blogger claiming you are spamming the web. Frustrating indeed. It’s better to blog on self-hosted WordPress as long as the security is concerned.

To become a successful online marketer you need a combination of products like SEO tools, Keyword research tools, Content Rewriter, WordPress Plugins, Informational products, directory submitter, PLR articles and lot others. You might have to take membership to attend different webinars or forums in order to keep yourself updated and learn more useful tactics of earning money online. You may have to invest in freelancers to get your outsourced work done.

Those who are still clicking ads, reading emails should stop by now. Because this is in no way a viable way to earn money online in India. Don’t just get tempted as because it is free to join. Do not forget that your time is money. You should not afford to waste your time. Try to do something meaningful.

And one of the pathetic problems is that fraudsters take chances of selling products containing information about how one can earn money online for free which is available for free on the internet.

My motive was to change the mindset of those looking for free online opportunities to get rich soon. No shortcut. You have to become a part of this buying-selling process directly or indirectly in order to make money online from home. Have a businessman like an attitude and try different projects. You would surely get the return on your investment.
